My story begins in the early 90’s when three people close to me tested HIV+. A friend’s mother, and two of my cousins. My friend’s mom and one of my cousins took AZT and we watched them wither away to nothing. They both died. One cousin refused the drugs and is still living. So when I tested poz in 1999 I was already a little skeptical. I had only been intimate with one person and got tested out of curiosity. My numbers remained “good” for the first several years and then suddenly started dropping in the mid 2000’s. Now it’s 2010 and I have been living HIV+ for 11 years. I have watched my tcells drop and my viral load spike. Currently my tcells are 52 and my viral load is 322,000. My viral load has been as high as 667,000. I have NEVER been on HIV meds and I have never been sick with an opportunistic infection even though I’m well below the AIDS mark. I am still the picture of health. I run every morning and workout throughout the day. I work 70-80 hours a week and enjoy friends and family on the weekends like any other 29 year old. Here is a link to my YouTube page so you can see a video of me talking about living with this condition.
