I’m 47 and doing extremely well since getting over the shock of my “diagnosis” 18 months ago. It’s been years since I’ve had so much as a runny nose and my risk factors are minimal, but I nevertheless turned my shock into a wake-up call to improve my diet and exercise routine. Who would have guessed that I would gladly replace the refined sugar in my diet with “nature’s antibiotic,” good old garlic? You will too if you start reading about the nasty things sugar does to your digestive tract–almost as bad as what antiretroviral drugs can do. I now have no craving at all for soft drinks, and a clove a freshly chopped garlic in my sandwich is also painless. Combined with everything I’ve read about HIV being a non-issue, I am extremely confident that the net result of being shocked into dumping old habits after my “diagnosis” will be several years ADDED to my life with all of this new attention to diet, herbal supplements and exercise.
